7 unpeeled medium Potatoes
5 teaspoons of salt
2 quarts ice water
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 – 1/2 teaspoons celery salt
1 – 1/2 teaspoons pepper
Oil for frying
Use a metal cheese slicer or a vegetable slicer to cut the potatoes into very thin slices. You can make them a bit thick, depending on how you prefer it. If you are preparing it for an elderly person, then it is advisable to cut it into very thin slices.
Place the slices into a large bowl and add the ice water and salt. The amount of salt can be varied to the amount of potatoes you are using and the number of people you are preparing it for.
Soak it for thirty minutes.
Drain the potatoes; place them on paper towels and dry pat.
In a small bowl mix the garlic powder, celery salt and the pepper and set it aside.
Now it is time to use your air fryer. Traditionally, you would have used cast iron or an heavy skillet to fry the oil and prepare the potato chips but due to the many disadvantages of the alternatives, here we have a better option that could be used with very minimal oil and would still give the perfect crisp you would hope for.
With the air fryer, in a regulated heat of up to 375 degrees Celsius, fry the potatoes in batches until you begin it becomes golden brown. The frying takes 3 – 4 minutes with frequent stirring.
Remove the crisp potato chips with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Now you will mix with seasoning mixture and store the chips in an air tight container.
Here you have your potato chips done and set to dish.
Three to four cups contain about 176 calories, 8g fat (1g saturated fat), 0 cholesterol, 703mg sodium, 24g carbohydrate (1g sugars, 3 fiber), 3g protein.
The air fryer uses less amount of oil to get the job done and really, this helps reduce the fat concentration in the potatoes. It is healthy and pocket-friendly to make.
